What is the program?
REMOTA is an online residency for artistic and writing practices. The virtual space makes it possible to transcend borders and bring together a diverse group of creators who can enrich one anothers’ processes by offering different perspectives and strengthening and expanding each others’ cultural networks. The groups, as also tends to be the case in physical residencies, are inclusive and will consider a diverse range of creative practices, places of origin, ages, and genders.
The remote residency will run for one month, in which residents will share their work, projects, and creative process (and the physical context of their lives) through virtual sessions. They will continue working individually on their respective projects, along with the support and input of the REMOTA residing at a distance staff. For the duration of the residency, there will be various channels of open and ongoing communication between participants to maintain the thread of discussion.
Activities:
- Individual sessions: Presentation preparation. The REMOTA team will meet with participants on an individual basis to discuss how they will share their work with the rest of the group. The presentations will be based on application proposals and in accordance with the resident’s needs and interests.
- Group sessions: Presentations of projects/work to the whole group. Both the residents and the CS team will actively participate in the presentations and generate discussion by asking questions, suggesting references, or responding to relevant topics as they come up.
- Individual sessions: 1 follow-up meeting with each resident will be held to offer individual attention and support to participants in order to discuss progress, problem solve challenges, address needs, etc.
- Group session: A more in-depth group seminar will be held on topics related to residents’ work and presentations.
- Group sessions. Residents will present on the progress of their work over the course of the month.
