The Masia Can Serrat is an interesting place to visit for short-term stays and weekend getaways in a rural setting. You can have a self-conducted retreat or explore El Bruc, a small village that skirts the mountain of Montserrat, and the neighboring villages that have many activities to offer outdoor enthusiasts.  Whether you enjoy climbing, hiking, padel or swimming.  Here is a non-exhaustive list of some highlights of the area:

Montserrat, a conglomerate characterized by its large boulder formations, is a very popular destination for rock climbing. South section guide, Long ways guide.

Hiking some of the many trails in Montserrat, accessible at a walking distance from Can Serrat. Hiking guide

Hike or hire a cab to the Montserrat Monastery

Visit the Sunday market in Collbató — a lovely outdoor market that offers fresh breads, cheeses, fruit, and vegetables, clothing, and other treasures.

Enjoy lunch at the Vinya Nova –an old Masia with a lovely patio and traditional Catalan dishes.  In the late winter-early spring season, they have a special calçot menu.

Visit the Salt Caves in Collbató, whose organic forms were inspirations for Gaudí’s architecture.

Swim at the outdoor municipal pool in town, with a beautiful view of Montserrat mountain, which is open during the summer months from the end of June-first of Setember.  It has a bar that serves meals and drinks that you can sip on the patio after your swim in the warm summer sun.

In December, the international artist and residency program closes and we are open to renting the house to families and groups for the holiday season.  Enjoy the local Christmas market and Kings Day parade in the village!

Or come to do a personal retreat and bring a project you would like to work on (reading, writing, art-making).  Open-plan studio space and desks are available for you to use and focus on your work.

The house organizes ongoing activities that everyone is welcome to participate in during their stay here: sound recorded debates proposed by residents themselves, a dinner in which we invite local citizens of the village to have a cultural exchange with the household, project presentations, a book club in which we share resources by reading excerpts and texts in various languages, ping pong, and visits to relevant cultural project spaces and other residencies.
