Can Serrat, approximately 1,187 m² in size, is a traditional Catalan masia located in El Bruc, a small village at the foot of Montserrat mountain, 45 km from Barcelona. The house was acquired in 1989 by eleven Norwegian artists, who began a long process of renovation.
The natural surroundings are a fundamental part of the experience: a pleasant walk leads from the house to the base of the mountain, with open views of Montserrat’s distinctive rock formations. Can Serrat offers various workspaces and studios within an intense and constantly changing natural environment.
Can Serrat is a space for creation and process.
Can Serrat is a community.
Activities are based on a defined working methodology and develop in relation to the stories and imaginaries that are collectively built throughout the residency. We are particularly interested in processes without pressure for results, open-ended research, doubt, curiosity, and debate as driving forces of work.
This open call is open year-round for residencies taking place throughout 2026.
At the end of each month, the Can Serrat team reviews the applications received and contacts the selected applicants to propose the next available period, depending on the availability of the house and the project.
Selected residents will have time and space to work on their own projects while also taking part in the communal life of Can Serrat.
