Paula Vilageliu Porlein

Her artistic practice is situated within sculpture and the visual arts, where the interrelation between body, matter, and space forms the foundation from which she builds her proposals. She understands sculpture in an expanded sense, incorporating action, video, and writing, and exploring different languages and material supports.

In her work, there is a constant movement from the inside out. What happens in the intimacy of the studio or home—in a space of retreat and experimentation—is projected outward. She works from a place of uncertainty and the desire to create, understanding the process as a path of discovery. Form emerges through action, transforming everyday concerns into gestures that take shape as sculptures, material records, and audiovisual works.

Her recent projects explore intimate questions and the sensitive potential of intimacy. Intimacy acts as a conceptual engine, as a territory shared by all: a fragile force, in constant transformation, which requires involvement but also leaves room for error, chance, and their possible offshoots.

Her work oscillates between the resistant and the vulnerable, exploring the tensions between materials and processes. She investigates the formal qualities and possibilities of various interacting materials, generating pieces that configure their own ecosystem. This set of elements is internally connected while also engaging in dialogue with the present, the context, and the moment in which it is produced.

Paula is in residence at Can Serrat in January 2026.
