Dedria Humphries Barker

Dedria Humphries Barker was born December 19 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. She explores color, culture, and ethnicity through the tensions of group membership and individuality. Her work has appeared in several anthologies, on Salon.com, Literary Mama, and in Redbook magazine, among other markets. Her book, a work of creative nonfiction titled Mother of Orphans: The True and Curious Story of Irish Alice, a Colored Man’s Widow, is forthcoming from 2Leaf Press in October 2018. During her Can Serrat residency, the journalist, editor, publisher, public speaker, writing professor emeritus and mother will focus on her memoir about high school football.
