Mathis Sabrié

I arrived at Can Serrat with an over-sized Mikado set.  I have arranged a simultaneous event in my home by inviting a series of participants to take my name and place while I am away.  As I calmly paint my sticks here, one person per week replaces me in my apartment in my absence, living a parallel version of my life. Their experience is mediated by a notebook that they can write in while they occupy my home and pass to and communicate with the following person.

Mathis earned an MFA at the European School of Visual Art (EESI) (2020).  His works are inspired by games and chance and he works at the intersection of literature and performance.  He makes objects that facilitate playfulness, for example he engineered a 3-meter straw which was used to displace river water.

Mathis makes his residence in Can Serrat between September and December 2021
