Laura Waltsburger’s work focuses on the way architectural structures reflect ideological, cultural, political and social choices. Those different structures shape and mould people and their bodies, the way they live their lives, the way they envision the world. She is interested in the implicit : the things that appear so normal to us that we do not pay attention to them.
To her, the mundane is deceptive : it seems boring and uninteresting, when in fact it holds our unspoken rules and biases.
She believes that in order to finds ways to live together sustainably, we have to examine and question this normalcy. She does so by painting enclosed spaces where the familiar meets the eerie.
Laura does her residency at Can Serrat between May and September 2024.
