Marit Tunestveit Dyre

Marit Tunestveit Dyre works with performance, observational photography, text, sculptural elements, and dialogical practices. Textile is a recurring material in her practice, both as a medium and as a source of inspiration. She is particularly interested in the expanded use of textiles across cultural, economic, and political contexts; for instance, she understands flags as a textile format of material and cultural significance.

Methodologically, she uses the camera as a working tool to photograph, sketch, and document performative actions and sources of inspiration, shaping a practice of observational photography. In recent years, walking has become a key working method: she walks to familiarize herself with new social and cultural contexts, to seek inspiration, to learn, to broaden her horizons, and to process experience.

Her current topics of interest include walking, growth in various forms, hands—making and tacit knowledge—food, sustainability, social inequality, justice, gentrification, and cultural, social, emotional, and economic capital. She holds a BA in Specialized Art Textile (2011) and an MA in Fine Art (2013) from the Bergen National Academy of Art and Design, as well as a BA in Social Anthropology (2024) from the University of Bergen. Her recent studies reflect her interest and curiosity in the complexity of the societies we live in.

Marit Tunestveit Dyre is in residence at Can Serrat in February 2026.
