Presentation: Joan Bennassar

Presentation of majorcan artist Joan Bennassar Cerdà latest projects, including the one he worked on during his residency at Can Serrat last October.

The project I’ve conducted in residence at Can Serrat (18/10/15 to 10/25/15) is entitled: The honey is too sweet for the beekeper. It starts from the garden tours at Can Serrat and, more specifically, the daily observation of a beehive located in the vicinity of the small cave of crystals / mirrors. The bee is an insect that has interested me for years and therefore its influential extensive genealogy in mythology and literature as well as its importance in the processes of pollination of plants worldwide and delicate situation of contemporary disappearance. The work process developed at Can Serrat is a film essay on bees, honey and its relationship with man. The project is designed to occur in two stages, first, a projection in the crystal cave, only to bees. The second projection is present in Can Serrat’s “Bodega”. In a hypothetical longer stay at the residence, I will work in developing sculptures in the shape of beehive to house bees to make honey.
