Ruth Koelewyn researches the need we have to connect to others and the importance of objects and daily rituals in helping us feel the continuity of those connections. The work is a way to learn and to hold on over time. The art she makes seeks to move us toward understanding through interaction with it.
Her practice includes curatorial projects, collaborative projects, and individual art career. Her work has been supported by the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, the Society of North American Goldsmiths, the Mondriaan Foundation, and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
Most recently Ruth was an artist in resident at the Rotacyjny Dom Kultury Jazdów in Warsaw, Poland where she also had a solo exhibition, Miejsce/Place and had a two-person exhibition, Moving Through, at Whitdel Arts in Detroit. She will have a solo exhibition in September 2019 at Lansing Art Gallery and will be a resident at Can Serrat in El Bruc, Spain from May-June 2019.
