Lara Gobec

Lara Gobec (2001, Slovenia) began writing during elementary school. In her first year of high school, she participated in the theatrical production “Dreaming?”, directed by Žiga Divjak at the Slovenian National Theatre. By her third year, she was selected for the Najst competition organized by the Slovenian National Theatre with her drama piece “At the End”. The staged readings of all selected works were directed by Luka Marcen. In 2020, she won the Župančičeva Frulica award for the best high school poet in Slovenia and was a finalist for the “Small Veronika” prize. That same year, her poems were published in the anthology of young Celje poetry titled “And the Earth Vibrates as a Living Body” (published by Gymnasium Celje-Center and the poetry festival Izrekanja). Currently, she is studying law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, as well as comparative literature and literary theory at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. Her works have been published on platforms such as Lud Literatura (where she had a monthly literary column), Novi Zvon, Poiesis, and in literary magazines such as Spirala, Zvon, and Poetikon. She also writes short prose and essays. Her short story “About Ex-Girlfriends and Teflon” was included in the anthology of contemporary Slovenian short prose by young authors titled “Snail Reflections” (published by Layer’s Publishing House in 2023). Additionally, she performed a poetic presentation of her own poetry titled “With Love, Lola” at the Izrekanja poetry festival in Celje. In 2022, she was selected to participate in an international literary residency organized by Faberllull in the Catalan town of Olot.
