Jesse Quam is a self-taught artist that was born in a rural town in Northern Minnesota. Quam’s work first gained recognition in Fargo, ND after creating a body of work with New York City based artist Richard Mock for an exhibition at the Plains Art Museum. Jesse Quam then moved to Minneapolis and his creative juices emerged into a thriving art community. He continues to evolve creating art motivated by experimental music, skateboarding, and urban exploration. These elements inspire energy-filled paintings, drawings, and linocuts that portray a dream-like awareness of the cosmos. His vivid and surreal style of work has been exhibited in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Soap Factory, Parade of Homes, Gamut Gallery, Flanders Gallery, Cult Status Gallery, and Ruff Love Doggy Day Care. The META Project is a collaboration with his partner Brook Thompson, which collaborative art projects and murals, that launched in May at the 2015 Art-a-Whirl in Northeast Minneapolis, MN. Their goal is to travel the globe and share their imaginations with the world. Recently they completed a local mural project in South Minneapolis and Dickinson, North Dakota. In September they will be doing an artist residency and collaborative work at Can Serrat in Spain.

During the residency at Can Serrat I will be creating a multi-media project in collaboration with my partner and also resident artist, Brook Helen Thompson, involving: music, painting/printmaking, writing/poetry, and performance/video, with the goal of exploring a joint creative process and dialogue between aforementioned media.
