Helene Ridderberg (they/she, b. 1997) is a queer Danish artist based between the Netherlands and Denmark. They are a classically trained chorist followed by training in rhythmical saxophone, physical theatre and contemporary dance. In 2016, she won an award from ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum for the video installation ‘GRUND(F)LAG’ made in collaboration with Miro Hansen after which she continued to expand her eclectic practice, resulting in attaining her degree in choreography from SNDO in Amsterdam. They have performed for numerous international artists and shown their own work in places such as Villa Kultur (CPH), Frascati Theatre (AMS), De Brakke Grond (AMS).

The work of Helene Ridderberg is grounded in body and sound through lenses of choreography. Her practices extend into to other mediums, such as sculpting and video-work, as she continuously invites unknowns into her open-ended worldbuildings. Their artistic motivation is fuelled by an interest in the complexity of relation in all its ways, hidden or otherwise, as they work with a devotion to the magics that noticing relations can reveal. Magic is understood not exclusively as a supernatural force or entity, but rather a force that is available through magnified attention, one she strives to facilitate through her work. It is part of a motivation to queer fixed notions of reality and specifically the obsession with binary thinking in the current landscape of North-Western Europe and its politics.
