Frederikke Jul Vedelsby is currently based in Lisbon where she is wrapping up her studies at Maumaus Independent Study Program. She holds an MFA from Malmö Art Academy and works with video and drawing. In 2020 she received Bror Hjorts Stipendium for young drawing artists and Edstrandska Stiftelsens stipendium. She is invited as an artist in residency at the LungA school in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, from January to March 2022, where she will live, work and teach a course. In her work, she is in constant dialog with a group of people she encountered different places, whom don’t know each other and whom she is filming with. These dialogues, somatic and verbal meetings, provides knowledge that she works within the drawings. The drawings are neither abstract nor figurative, and is made in an intense rhythmic state, with crayons the artist makes herself from beeswax, and pigments made from carbonized vine.
Frederikke will be in residence at Can Serrat during June 2022
