Ayşe İdil İdil is an artist based in Istanbul and Rotterdam. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently studying with the Dutch Art Institute Art/Praxis program. In her practice she researches alternative forms of togetherness, the conditions that shape bonds, and how memories are formed and preserved across time, place, and localities. Her work traces the entanglement of humans, nonhumans, sound, space, and memory to explore how these elements shape belonging in times of multiple global crises. Through auto-fictional and constellational approaches, her work avoids linear narratives and hierarchies of knowledge.
İdil’s first solo show An absent door, always open was exhibited at poşe in 2018. Her texts have been published online and in print locally and internationally. She has participated in Sharjah Biennial 16: to carry in 2025. She has participated in Arter Research Programme (Arter, İstanbul), Devir (Galeri5, İstanbul), and Castro Studio Program (Rome). Examining alternative ways of collaboration, she has hosted radio shows at and organized events with independent internet radio Modyan. She is endlessly inspired by the music scene, the aural space, and poetry, and organizes Mike Check open microphone events. She is a co-founder of Garp Sessions, a research residency which prioritizes collective learning, thinking, and digesting since 2019 in the North Aegean Turkey.
