CAN SERRAT it is located in El Bruc, at the foot of Montserrat, just 45 km from Barcelona. This center was founded in 1989 by a group of 11 Norwegian artists. It is open all year round for the rental of individual or shared rooms, and for the rental of the entire house or part of it for groups for a duration of one day up to one month.

 

ACCESS: 

35 minutes with car/cab from the airport to Can Serrat (a reservation for a cab is possible for a fee, see below)

45 minutes by bus to and from Barcelona

Direct access to hiking trails in the mountain of Montserrat

10 minutes walking distance from the house to all shops in the village (bakery, pharmacy, bar, restaurants, supermarket …)

 

THE HOUSE AND WORKSHOP SPACES

The house is an old farmhouse of 1187m². On the ground floor, there is the entrance hall, kitchen, dining room, bathrooms, and an old cellar converted into a workspace. The house has different types of rooms, 2 kitchens, and 2 dining rooms.

  • Bedrooms

There are 16 rustic and charming rooms available: single, double, triple, or quadruple. If you book a shared room, you will share it with one or two people of the same gender. If you are a family and need additional beds in a room, they can be included.

Bed linen and towels are provided upon arrival, and residents can use the washing machine located in the bathroom area to wash their sheets, towels, and other personal items during their stay.

Each individual is expected to keep their room clean during their stay and before departure. Check-in is flexible based on the arrival at the house and the flight (in the case of coming from the airport). We ask that you arrive around 12 pm noon. Check-out is at 11:00 am, which means you must remove your belongings from your bedroom before this time. You are welcome to stay at the house for the rest of the day.

  • Bathrooms

On the ground floor, there are three communal bathroom areas equipped with showers, sinks, and toilets. A hairdryer, washing machines, and drying racks are also available in the bathroom for communal use.

  • Studios
    • An old cellar: printmaking studio + dance/performance/theater rehearsal space (260m2).
    • 1 multifunctional community studio. Lots of natural light (36m2).
    • 2 writing and presentation rooms with a projector. (25m2).

In addition, there are several outdoor spaces that include 2 terraces + a courtyard with arches, and an outdoor concert stage, all surrounded by the 9200 m2 garden.

The house can accommodate up to 45 people.

 

MEALS

Basic food supplies are provided on a weekly basis and shared with all residents (ask for the list of items as it is changing depending on the season).

Any extra or specific food and personal necessities can be purchased in the town of El Bruc and residents can use the refrigerators located in the Kitchen to store personal food items. There are also a number of restaurants located in and near the village that offer lunch menus at a very affordable price.

A microwave, toaster, water boiler, and coffee machine (tea and coffee provided) are also available in the kitchen for use throughout the day.

 

EQUIPMENT

Printmaking studio (Manual chalcographic printing press (80 cm wide), blankets and a paper press. Various basic tools are available for use, but it is suggested that experienced printmakers bring their own tools_ · Please note the printmaking studio is NOT set up for acid etching)

ART SUPPLY

Residents are responsible for providing and bringing their own materials to work with. For example, materials that need to be purchased include: varnishes, specific personal tools, paper, canvases, paints, brushes, etc. All of this material can be purchased at the ilpintore store in Martorell and requested to be delivered to Can Serrat.
