Allison Acza Figueroa Rojas is filmmaker and researcher, working across video art, sound, and artistic research. They were born in Tongoy, Coquimbo, Chile and raised in Canada. Allison holds a double specialization in English Literature and Cinema Studies from Concordia University in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal, Quebec) and an MA in Theory and Practice in Documentary Filmmaking from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
As an immigrant and settler in Canada and Europe, Allison seeks to examine and challenge colonialism through the intersections of food narratives, identity politics, and homeland relationships. As a Latinx, their experiences inform their research work and perspectives within documentary & film. Archiving being a theme across their work and a source of inspiration as a tool for dialogue, they continuously explore the borders and boundaries of communication.
Allison takes up residency at Can Serrat in September 2024.
