Mercedes is a South Californian woman, poet, feminist, independent cultural manager, and educator. She is the author of the poetry books Malabras (2021) and Inversa Rama (2023), published by Barco Varado Ediciones. Her work has been featured in several anthologies, including Letras del Finisterra (ISC, 2011), Testamento del Sol (UABCS, 2008), La Semilla en la Voz (Cuadernos de la Serpiente, 2017), Memorias de las Lunas de Octubre (ISC, 2017), Altares: memoria gráfica y literaria (Government of B.C.S. and ISC, 2018), and [Sobre] Vivir hilando historias (Corda Ediciones, 2023). Her poetry and literary reviews have also been published in magazines such as Timonel, Blanco Móvil, El Grito Zine, and online platforms like Círculo de Poesía, Círculo Literario de Mujeres, and Otro Páramo.
She was awarded the UABCS Poetry Prize in 2008 and the State Youth Poetry Prize Día de Muertos in 2012. She received the PECDA BCS grant in Literature for 2022–2023. Her poem Paradoja was a finalist in the Caminos de la Libertad contest (Mexico City, 2015). She participated as a fellow in the literary gatherings Interfaz (2014) and 13 Habitaciones Propias (2019) in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and as a guest at Lunas de Octubre (La Paz, 2011, 2018, and 2021) and the Encuentro de Escritores Sudcalifornianos (La Paz, 2023).
Mercedes is the organizer and co-producer of Mariposas FEST, a Transdisciplinary Feminist Festival (Los Cabos, 2015–2023), and co-creator of the stage-literary project Eco Etéreo, poetry for two voices, which toured multiple cities across Mexico (2021) and Europe (2023). She is currently a collaborator in the project Inari Maru, Arte, Imaginación y Costa, directed by art curator Lorena Peña Brito.
