Sophia Casas, born in 1986 in New York City, is an artist and educator currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008 and her MA in Art Education from New York University in 2015.
For the last seven years Sophia has taught visual arts at a public elementary school in New York City. She uses her summers to travel and delve into her artistic practice. Her paintings are dream-like narratives that explore a range of emotional connections and stories between human figures and their environments. By creating levels of ambiguity and mystery in these narratives, she encourages the viewer to generate their own personal connection or story within each painting.
Sophia makes her residence at Can Serrat during the month of July 2022
