Abid Aslam

Living in today’s contemporary time and everyday phenomenal, one cannot get rid of history as the fact of taking references and looking back into historical terms still remain same. This phenomenon not only leads so many thoughts to think about but to utilize them in the creation of an artwork too, which leads to the question ‘Where the image/visual coming from?’ Aslam’s whole art practice is actually derived from miniature and converting image by mixing two traditional art practices; Miniature and Metal Engraving (usually used to make impressions on or engraving objects). where he actually transformed the idea of engraving on wasli (a bundle of paper used especially in Mughal Era) where the application of tools ranging from different sizes and designs lead to give the 3D and 2D effect to the surface. Coming towards more detailed discussion regarding process/work strategy, whole body of work revolves around the concept of patterns, which on whole creates imagery seek far from the distance. The process of making such intricate patterns enhances the meaning of created imagery more and more; how such two different traditions can directly lay in conversation with each other, how they are feeding back each other or what narrative they are going to produce at the end.
