Last 4 years Annelies’ work is mostly made with the more classical etching and aquatint techniques. They offer ambiguous glimpses and distilled reflections on the question: ‘what does it mean to be human?’. The images are harvested from personal life experiences, inner compost piles and digested universal stories. She often spend a lot of time on making a print without knowing why, and after months it becomes clear why she felt the urge to make this particular image. Eager to move away from the toxic products often used in a printmaking studio, Annelies wants to learn how to make certain print resources and tools herself, from recycled and lowcost materials and experiment with the electrolyse technique. Besides that, drawing takes in important place in her practice, in relation to the specific ways of reflection that comes from printmaking.
Annelies is doing her residency at Can Serrat between May and August, 2025.
