Based in Izmir, Turkey, Yiğit is a visual artist, sound designer, and filmmaker. A graduate of the Film and Television program at Bahçeşehir University, currently enrolled at Music and Sound Design for Visual Media program. His work seamlessly blends sound and image, frequently emphasizing rhythm, atmosphere, and sensory storytelling. The interaction between the commonplace and the strange is a common theme in Gürlek’s work, which includes short films, experimental visuals, and sound-based projects. He is drawn to Anatolia’s complex cultural past, the way memory subtly permeates space, and the enduring presence of folklore in everyday gestures. His stories frequently start with a small, odd observation and develop into tales that explore perception, connection, and disconnection. In addition to his solo endeavors, Gürlek is a creative duo with Berfin Türküm Tepe. Together, they create works where myth meets contemporary life drawing from humor, folk horror and social observations.
Yiğit will be in residence June 2026.
