Intertwining themes course through Dowell’s work, capturing the energy of place. She incorporates the vigor, tension, and perceptions of an environment, often reflecting a sense of locality, history, and often social justice elements in her paintings on canvas and large scale murals. Sharon is also involved and interested in public art commissions as these generate connections across communities, allowing art to become a part of one’s every day experience.

“While in residence at Can Serrat, I wish to create a new body of paintings, monotypes, and possibly collages capturing the energy of Catalayuna and Spain. My work will be inspired by the patterns and architecture of the region, communicating redeeming hope and expressing that vibrant culture is preserved and prevails despite the troubles of society.”
