Through my work, I choose to observe the non-figurative aspects of social history, as traditionally this is the only way we view the past from this contemporary stance. My aim is to frame these ‘stories’ in an alternative way from traditional historical sources. The outcome can take on a variety of media. I find the method and subject of the work intertwined, so often the chosen media becomes apparent after initial in-depth research. Ultimately, I ask viewers of my work to look at the history that surrounds them and to take-in stories of communities long gone.
