Rhia Laing’s research-based practice is multi-disciplinary, with a focus on experimental video and writing. Choosing to observe and explore the archival traces left by our collective pasts and study the non-figurative aspects, she aims to frame them in an alternative way from traditional sources. Laing’s work leaves audiences questioning their own histories, our collective stories, and how these are represented by institutions. Her work is best described as a ‘film poet’ , bringing together visual art, writing, fiction, and social history
– a combination of things, reflecting the way working-class history has always been transferred.
Rhia is doing her residency at Can Serrat in July 2025.
