Dafna Ishay

Through the process of creating an artwork, Dafna comprehends and questions the human experience, translating to the spectator explicitly how the world ‘feels’, in the depths of her internal landscape. Through all stages of creation: the research, formation of imagery and symbolism, choice of materials and techniques she brings physicality to what is sensed. Heavily based on theology, philosophy, ancient symbolism, and biblical ideas her works often translate abstract spiritual concepts into surrealist, emotionally- toned and intense paintings.
As a ‘third culture kid’, born to Israeli/ Jewish heritage, but raised in the Australian community her work often inquiries about belonging and identity in all its forms: spiritual, sexual, and social.

Dafna does her residency at Can Serrat in May-June 2024.
