Moira McCavana

Moira McCavana is a writer from Boston, Massachusetts at work on a collection of short stories set in the Spanish Basque Country. The recent tales of immigration on either side of her family—her father, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and grandfather from Bilbao—are enormous influences on her stories, all of which are interested in belonging to and exile from place.

At Can Serrat, she is taking a break from research in the Basque Country to learn more about the history of the Spanish Civil War in Catalonia. The oral history and anecdotes gathered in both regions, she hopes, will aid her in extending the collection of stories that she began as a senior thesis at Harvard University, titled 86 Ways of Becoming José Manuel Elosegi.
