Born 1992 in Portsmouth, UK, Sophie is a visual artist interested in creating work that responds to specific contexts, environments, and situations. Recently this has included gallery gift shops and food packaging in supermarkets. Her work stems from observations and exists in a variety of mediums, including performance, film, text, digital media, walks and interventions.
Sophie graduated in 2014 with a BA in Fine Art: Critical Practice at the University of Brighton, and this year completed a Masters in Performing Public Space at Fontys University of Fine and Performing Arts, Tilburg, the Netherlands.
She has worked on a mixture of practice-based and curatorial projects in Scotland, Wales, Canada, Catalonia, and the U.S. with organizations such as Deveron Projects, Art Gene, Wave Pool Gallery, and g39.
This month Sophie will continue to develop a body of work surrounding art and tourism, considering the potential and context of TripAdvisor, as well as the relationships we form with art through reproductions on souvenirs.
Sophie was a resident of Can Serrat in May 2018 and volunteer artistic coordinator for the November 2019 residency group.
