I rely on restraint and minimal form as a point of entry,\\nexploring the relationship between subtlety and the sublime. I\u2019m\\ninterested in the qualities of opposites and how two opposing\\nforces hold the same space, as examined through my choice of\\nmaterials \u2013 the grit of spray paint on linen, black on white, the\\nhardened line of the rectangle and the soft glow of fog. The object\\nresponds to and changes based on these contradictions. The\\nmaterials and structure I choose form an emotional architecture,\\ncreating a dialogue with the viewer that invites them to explore\\nthese paradoxes. My recent work explores the idea of landscapes\\nin outer space: using the vantage point of looking through a\\nwindow, the border framing this other world, questioning what\\nwe think we see and the possibilities that lie in the unseen.\\n\\n\\n\\nBio\\n\\nBased in New York, Michelle Brandemuehl studied painting and received her BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been a resident of the Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk, NY, PADA Studios in Lisbon, PT, and CCA Residency in Brooklyn, NY.
