My text-based work takes form through graphite drawings, bookbinding, and an array of printmaking processes primarily including intaglio, cyanotypes, and relief printing. \\n\\nMy hybrid poetry imagines a symbiosis between nostalgia and guilt in order to understand how a Catholic upbringing has contributed to my notions of self within the context of contemporary womanhood. During this past year of isolation and chaos, in which I have not been able to escape my singularity, my poetry has focused on the sudden compulsion to constantly identify proof of my existence, as if checking to ensure my own shadow is still there. I observe the physical traces I\u2019ve left, impacts I\u2019ve made, trail markers of my own validity. After feeling so out of touch with myself and the world around me, perhaps it is my way of regaining contact. \\n\\nWhen translating text\u2014mine or others\u2019\u2014to visual art, each of the methods I employ ultimately shares the outcome of distorting the original text and hindering its legibility. By doing this, I strip the words down to study their pure visual form, reassigning emphasis from their content to their appearance as images. Mi trabajo basado en el texto toma forma a trav\u00e9s de dibujos en grafito, encuadernaci\u00f3n y una serie de procesos de grabado que incluyen principalmente la calcograf\u00eda, los cianotipos y la impresi\u00f3n en relieve.<\/p>\n<p>Mi poes\u00eda h\u00edbrida imagina una simbiosis entre la nostalgia y la culpa para entender c\u00f3mo una educaci\u00f3n cat\u00f3lica ha contribuido a mi noci\u00f3n del yo en el contexto de la mujer contempor\u00e1nea. Durante este \u00faltimo a\u00f1o de aislamiento y caos, en el que no he podido escapar de mi singularidad, mi poes\u00eda se ha centrado en la repentina compulsi\u00f3n de identificar constantemente pruebas de mi existencia, como si comprobara que mi propia sombra sigue ah\u00ed. Observo los rastros f\u00edsicos que he dejado, los impactos que he provocado, los marcadores de rastro de mi propia validez. Despu\u00e9s de sentirme tan desconectada de m\u00ed misma y del mundo que me rodea, quiz\u00e1 sea mi forma de recuperar el contacto.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando traduzco un texto -m\u00edo o de otros- a un arte visual, cada uno de los m\u00e9todos que empleo tiene como resultado final la distorsi\u00f3n del texto original y la obstaculizaci\u00f3n de su legibilidad. Al hacerlo, despojo las palabras para estudiar su forma visual pura, reasignando el \u00e9nfasis de su contenido a su apariencia como im\u00e1genes.
